Statement of Sovereignty

The Republic of Soundland, established on the 2nd of August, 2020 to protect the civil liberties of our citizens from the United States, is a sovereign and independent nation entitled to all the rights and duties of a state, including the right to exercise sovereignty over its territorial bodies. We affirm our status as a state and our basic international rights in accordance with the principles outlined in the Montevideo Convention of 1933, which establishes the rights of states and prescribes the requirements for statehood.
Soundland possesses a permanent population, a defined territory, a government, and the capacity to enter into relations with other states. As such, we meet all criteria for statehood under Article 1 of the Montevideo Convention.
Article 3 of the Montevideo Convention states that "The political existence of the state is independent of recognition by the other states. Even before recognition the state has the right to defend its integrity and independence". Having met the criteria of statehood under the Convention, we reserve these rights.
Soundland upholds the principles of our national motto: Democracy, Liberty, Equality, and strives to promote human rights and social equality for all across the world. We are committed to building relations with other nations that benefit the international community.
The Republic of Soundland is dedicated to the welfare of our citizens, protecting their rights and freedoms, and working towards a future where all have their basic needs met and can freely and fully participate in society.
The Republic of Soundland recognizes that territories we assert sovereignty over are the ancestral territory of the Suquamish People. Read our land acknowledgment here. By administering these territories, we do not attempt to usurp the historical sovereignty of indigenous peoples over this land, but rather act independently from the United States government, which would otherwise hold jurisdiction. The Republic of Soundland will never assert authority over the sovereign territories of indigenous tribes and nations as set out by treaty. The Republic of Soundland is committed to the principles of the Land Back movement. We are committed to maintaining free passage for indigenous peoples through Soundlandian territory.
